What to Expect

Upon arriving at your acupuncture appointment, I will greet you, then conduct an introductory intake interview where I will assess your primary and secondary well-being concerns. I may, or may not take blood pressure. I will check your pulse and tongue, to determine imbalances.  After looking over all of your information, I will create a treatment plan, designed specifically for your condition.

Be sure to wear comfortable, loose clothing, so that I may easily access all of the proper acupuncture points.  If there are acupuncture points important to your condition, hidden by your clothing, you will be asked to put on a gown.  If you have muscle pain, I may perform cupping on your back, and/or apply an electrical stimulator machine to the acupuncture needles.  If there is excess heat in your body, I may perform gua sha, which is a gentle scraping of the skin.  If there is excess cold in your body, I may perform moxibustion, which is the method of applying gentle heat to acupuncture points.  In difficult cases of low back pain, high blood pressure, or a sore throat, I may perform a gentle, nearly painless, bleeding method.

Once the needles are in the acupuncture points which need them the most, I will perform some Reconnective Healing, which is a hands-off form of energy healing.  Reconnective Healing assists the healing by creating a space where the body enters into a deep state of relaxation.  I may leave the room for a few minutes, as the healing is amplified by my absence.  Upon returning, I will remove the needles.  After removing the needles, I may locate areas in the ear which correspond to areas of pain or imbalance in your body.  I may stimulate these points with an electrical stimulator, to induce healing to the necessary areas.  Then, I will apply some ear seeds which will keep the points stimulated for a few days.

At the end of the day, I will research herbal formulas that address your health situation.  After finding the right formula for you, I will send you an e-mail with the recommended formula attached.  The attachment will explain why the formula is right for you.  You can then order the formula directly from the supplier.

After that, I will type up all of the pertinent data for your file, and e-mail you a copy, if you would like.  The advantage of receiving this data is that you will know how I treated your health challenge last time, how I intend to treat your health challenge next time, and how your health is progressing from treatment to treatment.

If we are making progress on your condition, we'll continue with treatments.  It generally takes 5-6 treatments to know if the acupuncture is having a positive effect.  If I have tried several approaches to your problem and nothing is working, then I will refer you to other practitioners.
